Attachment-Detachment.

Friday July 29th 2011

Think about all the things you are attached to right now at this very moment in time. Just think about how you are attached to them and if the attachments are one of necessity. You will probably find as you begin to delve a little deeper non or little of these attachments are significant to your growth. What is it that you are attaching to?

Have you ever noticed how much you obsess about something when it’s not readily available to you. This can be as simple as an item of clothing or as complex as a relationship. But what happens when you get that something? when you achieve the goal of finally acquiring what it is you require, what happens? You may want more, you may want something else, you may require something deeper, more of a commitment? maybe?

Over the passed few months I have never felt this lesson so strongly and it’s been on a significantly deeper level. I’m not talking about my attachment to the material world but my attachment to my loved ones, the people in my life closest to me and I’m so grateful to be ‘seeing’ ‘observing’ and ‘learning’ this huge lesson at long last because I feel for years I may have been brushing it aside and sweeping it under the carpet, (you know that old tatty cloth carpet full of dust that sits in the corner of the room?) not this time, it’s hit with full force and I’m being forced to take note. Hallelujah!!

According to the teachings of Buddha the mind is the root of everything. I’ve been an observer of Thich Nhat Hanh for a number of years now and at certain times of my life when I need to delve deeper and truly understand something he is one of 3 teachers I run with. You may have your own personal choice of teacher, but my belief is whoever you follow, read the works of, take note of, then it’s right for our personal needs at that moment in time, leading us all to the same final destination.

The Second out of the Fourteen Mindful Trainings is as follows:

The Second Mindfulness Training: Non-attachment to Views
Aware of suffering created by attachment to views and wrong perceptions, I am determined to avoid being narrow-minded and bound to present views. I will learn and practise non-attachment from views in order to be open to others’ insights and experiences. I am aware that the knowledge I presently possess is not changeless, absolute truth. Truth is found in life and I will observe life within and around me in every moment, ready to learn throughout my life.

… A scientist with an open mind, who can question the present knowledge of science, will have more of a chance of discovering a higher truth. … The way of nonattachment from views is the basic teaching of Buddhism concerning understanding.

Next I observe the beauty of Mooji and his views on attachment:

In your natural mind it will not trouble you’- Mooji.

Finally a meditation into being “I’am’ I’am”- Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan
